The Bolden Bugle Newsletter

Dear Parents,
Did you know that reading comprehension is critical to student success in school? One way to assist students in developing their reading comprehension skills is “Retelling”. One of the best ways to check comprehension and boost your child’s understanding of the story is by asking him or her to retell it. Retelling a story requires your child to think critically about the details and decide what’s really important. Give your child these three rules for retelling a story:
1. Tell what’s important.
2. Tell it in a way that makes sense.
3. Don’t tell too much.
Studies show that this simple activity will help your child become a more thoughtful reader. Your child will start to pay attention to words whose meanings he or she doesn’t know, focus on the story structure, and pay more attention to important details. All of these things will improve your child’s reading comprehension and make him or her a better reader—and a more successful student! Happy Reading!

Counselor’s Corner
“If you want a friend –
you have to BE a friend”.
Students have been learning about the importance of maintaining healthy friendships. Everyone learns “how” to make friends in Kindergarten, so our focus has been on how to keep healthy friendships thriving by remaining respectful and being kind.
8th grade transition: It’s hard to believe our 8th graders are almost done with middle school and transitioning on to high school! If your son/daughter is headed to high school later this year, please be on the look-out for continuing information coming your way regarding Beaufort County High Schools. If you have any questions/concerns please contact Ms. Roberts, School Counselor at Fran.Roberts@dodea.edu or 843-466-7100.

Are you MOVING?? We're going to miss you!
The school needs to know if you are planning to PCS.
Come by the office to pick up a Student Withdrawal form when you know your student’s last day at Bolden E/MS.
If you move to another house on base (Parris Island, Laurel Bay, or Naval Hospital) you must provide the office with a copy of your new lease agreement. If you move off base during the school year, your child can finish the school year at Bolden. However, they will not be eligible to attend Bolden the next school year. The office will also need to be notified of your new address.
Contact the school at 843-466-7100 if you have any questions.

Hey Bolden Parents! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we want to ensure that our students have a fantastic and focused day at school. To help us achieve this, we kindly ask that you avoid bringing or having delivered any flowers, candy, balloons, presents, or similar items for your children. Let's keep the classroom environment distraction-free and full of learning fun! Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Happy Valentine's Day! 🎉❤️

A New Front Office Email Address
We are pleased to announce that a new email address has been
established to facilitate communication between families and
the school. The email address is boldenfrontoffice@dodea.edu.
This email will serve as the primary channel for parents and sponsor to communicate
attendance-related matters, including notifying us when a
student will be absent for the day or if there are emergency
dismissal changes.
Important Points:
Email Address: Please use the provided email address
(boldenfrontoffice@dodea.edu) when sending attendance
notes or dismissal change requests. It is crucial that both the
child’s homeroom teacher and the front office receive your
email.
Dismissal Changes: To ensure safety and security, we will
not accept dismissal changes after 2:30 p.m. If you need to
make any permanent transportation or dismissal changes,
please complete the required form. You can obtain the form
by visiting the school front office or requesting it to be sent
home.
Email Format for Dismissal Changes: When emailing a
dismissal change, please include the following details:
* Child’s full name
* Your name (parent/sponsor)
* Homeroom teacher’s name
* Specific dismissal changes for that day
Classroom Questions and Concerns: While this email
address is primarily for attendance and dismissal matters, if
you have specific classroom-related questions or concerns, we
encourage you to directly email the teacher responsible for
your child’s class. Thank you for your cooperation, and we
look forward to maintaining effective communication with our
school community.
Student Contact Information: Please notify the office if you have any new phone numbers (home, work, cell), or if you no longer use a number previously listed with the school. It is important to us that your child’s contact information is current for their teachers, school nurse, and principal. We also want to ensure that you receive all messages sent to Bolden families through the Everbridge notification system.
