The Bolden Bugle Newsletter
Dear Bolden Elementary Middle School Family and Staff,
As we gather to celebrate Thanksgiving, we are reminded of the many blessings in our lives, including the incredible community we share at Bolden Elementary Middle School. This season of gratitude is also a time to honor and appreciate the sacrifices and contributions of our military families.

Their dedication, resilience, and unwavering support for our school and community exemplify the spirit of service and commitment that defines our military families.
To the Rodriguez Family, thank you for your remarkable contributions and for being an inspiration to us all. Your strength and unity are a testament to the values we hold dear.
Wishing everyone a joyous Thanksgiving filled with love, gratitude, and cherished moments with family and friends. May we continue to foster a sense of unity and community, supporting one another through every challenge and triumph.

During Military Family Appreciation Month, DoDEA renews its commitment to the families and communities we are proud to serve. Our schools benefit from the contributions of military family members as teachers, support staff, and volunteers. Military Family Appreciation Month was established in 1993 by the Armed Services YMCA, with the U.S. Government recognizing the occasion every year since. Each year the President signs a proclamation declaring November Military Family Month. This annual proclamation marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the Military Family in which the Department of Defense and the nation will honor the commitment and sacrifices made by the families of the nation's service members. November is a time, by tradition, for family celebrations. It is also a month that we set aside time to honor the military family - a time to recognize their sacrifices and celebrate their successes.
During Military Family Month, we thank military families for the tremendous contribution they make in support of our service members,
the military mission, and the nation. Military life imposes unique demands on them, and during these difficult times, they have exhibited exceptional sacrifice, resiliency, and courage. Families provide our Service members with invaluable encouragement and love, and manage the home front while their loved ones are deployed. As we approach the winter holiday season when families across the world come together, we pay special tribute to our deployed forces and their families, who are separated this holiday season. The dedication and strength of military families during a sustained high operational tempo, increased deployment, and long separations is an inspiration to us all. The nation understands that families also serve, and is honored to pay tribute to them.
In DoDEA, every month is the month of the Military Family. It is our vision to be among the world's leaders in education, enriching the lives of military-connected students and the communities in which they live. Military children are at the heart of their families and the focus of all we do at DoDEA. Every one of those children deserves a great teacher, every school deserves a great principal, and every school must be high-performing.
Cyberbullying isn’t just restricted to bullying over the internet—it includes text messages and
other technology devices. It occurs when one person verbally bullies another or shares information about someone else
that embarrasses or hurts that person. Parents, you can prevent bullying from affecting your child through a number of
preventative measures.
• Teach your child how to appropriately share information over the Internet. Don’t just teach him/her what information
not to give out; also discuss what sorts of information he/she can share. Write examples of information your child
should and shouldn’t share, and tape it next to the computer.
• Learn the technology that your child uses. This includes texting, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter. Knowing what
the technology can do allows you to monitor how your child uses it and identify how it could be used to bully your
child.
• Install monitoring software on the computer. Some technologies allow you to monitor and restrict where
your child is at and can go on the Internet.
• Discuss with your child techniques for avoiding cyberbullying. Teach him/her to delete messages or emails with bullying
content. Encourage him/her to talk with you and an authority, such as a teacher, Principal, School Resource
Officer, when bullying occurs. Bullying won’t stop without intervention.
American Education Week (AEW), first celebrated in 1921 (read history below), is an opportunity to celebrate public education, to inform the community of the accomplishments and needs of public schools, to secure cooperation and support from the public, and to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education.
During American Education Week, DoDEA celebrates our ongoing efforts to provide excellence in education, for all of our students, every day, everywhere. DoDEA also recognizes the important partnerships we have forged with parents, students, and civilian and military communities to improve the quality of education for children of military families.
Our schools take on an additional role and significance in our communities, often providing the stability, routine, and focus for families affected by current global events, deployments, and separations
We use all seven senses every day? Seven??
Beyond the five senses we learn about in school (sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch) there are actually two more: the vestibular system (sense of balance) and proprioception (our intuitive sense of space and position).Â
Sense #6 – The Vestibular System (balance): The vestibular system is the scientific term for our sense of balance, responsible for keeping us upright and in balance.Â
Sense #7 – Proprioception (space & position): Proprioception is our body and brain working together to understand and navigate space and objects. Children develop and learn about these senses through movement, so encourage your child to be active and play outside!
A New Front Office Email Address
We are pleased to announce that a new email address has been
established to facilitate communication between families and
the school. The email address is boldenfrontoffice@dodea.edu.Â
This email will serve as the primary channel for parents and sponsor to communicate
attendance-related matters, including notifying us when a
student will be absent for the day or if there are emergency
dismissal changes.
Important Points:
Email Address: Please use the provided email address
(boldenfrontoffice@dodea.edu) when sending attendance
notes or dismissal change requests. It is crucial that both the
child’s homeroom teacher and the front office receive your
email.
Dismissal Changes: To ensure safety and security, we will
not accept dismissal changes after 2:30 p.m. If you need to
make any permanent transportation or dismissal changes,
please complete the required form. You can obtain the form
by visiting the school front office or requesting it to be sent
home.
Email Format for Dismissal Changes: When emailing a
dismissal change, please include the following details:
* Child’s full name
* Your name (parent/sponsor)
* Homeroom teacher’s name
* Specific dismissal changes for that day
Classroom Questions and Concerns: While this email
address is primarily for attendance and dismissal matters, if
you have specific classroom-related questions or concerns, we
encourage you to directly email the teacher responsible for
your child’s class. Thank you for your cooperation, and we
look forward to maintaining effective communication with our
school community.
Student Contact Information: Please notify the office if you have any new phone numbers (home, work, cell), or if you no longer use a number previously listed with the school. It is important to us that your child’s contact information is current for their teachers, school nurse, and principal. We also want to ensure that you receive all messages sent to Bolden families through the Everbridge notification system.
